1. The Person behind Proverbs
1:1 ‘The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel.’
?1 Kings 3:3-15 Solomon offered a wish.
?1 Kings 4:20-34 Solomon is seen with wisdom and wealth.
?1 Kings 10:1-9 Solomon’s fame attracts the Queen of Sheba

2. The Purpose of Proverbs
1:2-6
1.Education in how we view the world. ‘wisdom, instruction, words of insight’
2.Application in how we engage in the world. ‘receive instruction in wise dealing, righteousness, justice and equity’
3.To the simple – prudence
4.To the young – knowledge and discretion
5.To the wise – increase in learning
6.Introduces us to a style of teaching

3. The Platform of Proverbs
1:7 ‘The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom’ Worshipping submission to God radiating out into all of life.
3:6 ‘In all your ways acknowledge Him..’

4. The parental tone of Proverbs
1:8 ‘Hear my son your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching’
4:3,4, 10,11
A relay marathon of wisdom from one generation to the next

5. The personification of Wisdom
1:20 ‘Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice..’

6. Our perspective on Proverbs
Proverbs —-> Christ —-> us
Christ embodies wisdom,
invites us into relationship with God
and then calls us to follow Him in daily life.
